Beverley Gibbs is an engineering leader whose career spans industry, applied research, higher education and national policy. Her work focuses on creating and strengthening engineering institutions, advancing inclusive approaches to engineering education, and shaping how the UK develops engineering capability.
Engineering Foundations
Beginning her career as a polymer engineer, Beverley worked in industry before moving into applied research at the National Physical Laboratory. This experience continues to shape her belief that engineering education should be rooted in professional practice, societal need and real-world impact.
Building Institutions
Beverley has held senior leadership roles at the University of Sheffield, NMITE and the Dyson Institute. Her work has included large-scale curriculum transformation, accreditation, academic strategy and institutional development, including securing degree-awarding powers for two specialist engineering higher education institutions.
National Leadership
Through roles with the Engineering Professors' Council and other national bodies, Beverley works at the intersection of engineering capability, employability, social mobility and neuroinclusive practice. She brings together universities, employers, professional bodies and policymakers to strengthen pathways into and through the engineering profession.
